Residential and Commercial Projects

A recent major project that the MD Alan Dowman was directly involved with (as General Manager of one of the two main contractors) was the Auckland Harbour Bridge BGS Project. This was a 2 year, 65 million dollar project that required a complex set of logistics, fabrication and specialist personnel competencies

A core competence of Saltaire is the integrated labour force available for projects.

Many of the current team have International experience. Customers range from multinationals, including NZ's largest company Fonterra, to small cost effective solutions for small businesses or individual residential projects or maintenance.

The history of how the name ' Saltaire ' originated.

In the mid eighties when cell phones were big bricks, I thought that the time would come when you could run a company from anywhere. One day, my good mate Scotty and I were bouncing ideas around based on the latest technologies that had been released in 1986 and we laughed that we could be out fishing in a boat enjoying the ' salt air ' and be able to send a fax (not many people had email then) from a laptop computer (which was the size of a suitcase) via lots of wires through our 'big brick' cell phone and so be able to think in a creative and stimulating environment but still be ' in touch ' and so that's how the ' Saltaire' name first originated.

The next laugh we had was, that if one of the rods caught a fish, we could say on the phone, Sorry I have to go as I have a call on the "other line"....

Many of our customers viewed a recent documentary when Billy Connnelly visited a village named Saltaire in England. This village is famous for a wonderful act of charity in the early 1900s that a wealthy resident performed by converting his huge factory into a hostel for the underprivileged.

As many people are aware that our Saltaire has sponsored thousands of hours and technical capabilities to the Non Profit Disease Support Foundation to help people achieve a better quality of life whilst managing their diseases. But the two similar acts of kindness are just coincidental and were unknown to the Saltaire team before the documentary was screened. However it is nice to know that the Saltaire name continues to do good work to help others unselfishly.
